MaKeshia Leslie is a proud Nashville native with a deep passion for children, faith, and community. Her journey in education began at Nashville State Community College and continued at Tennessee State University, where she discovered her calling in the Montessori philosophy.
Since 2017, MaKeshia has grown from a supportive classroom assistant to a confident and inspiring Lead Guide, earning her AMS 3-6 Early Childhood Certification in 2023 at The Montessori Teacher Education Institute of Atlanta. Her experience spans toddlers to elementary-aged children, giving her a rich perspective as both an educator and a parent.
All four of MaKeshia’s children have attended Montessori programs, deepening her understanding of both the parent and educator experience. She shares, “As a mother, assistant guide, and Lead, I understand both sides of the field. In Montessori, I seek what most families seek: freedom for the child to explore, intentional care, and a safe, nurturing environment.”
MaKeshia is excited to be joining the Roots & Wings family and is deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve children and families through Montessori education. As a proud brown-skinned Montessorian, she leads with love, strength, and joy—knowing how powerful it is for children to see themselves in their leaders.
Outside the classroom, MaKeshia is a woman of faith who enjoys staying active, exploring the outdoors, and cherishing time with her family. Her greatest joy, however, is being a present and loving mother—cheering on her children at sports games, celebrating their milestones, and walking with them through every stage of growth.
How is class time structured? Children experience a daily work cycle where they receive individual or small-group lessons and choose activities from prepared shelves. This approach supports concentration, confidence, and independence.
How do you assess progress without traditional testing? Through careful observation, work samples, and regular communication with families. Guides track each child’s development and adapt lessons as needed.
Will my child nap during the day? Children who need rest have a dedicated nap time after lunch, while others engage in quiet, purposeful activities.
How does parent involvement work? Families are asked to contribute two volunteer hours per month to support our community. This may include helping with classroom projects, special events, or sharing a skill or activity with the children.
What if I have more than one child? We offer a 10% sibling discount for families enrolling more than one child.
Is there a long-term option as my child grows? Yes! Our Elementary Program continues through age 12, and priority is given to Primary families as spaces open.
